An Extra Hour
Imagine having an extra hour each day. We could use it for
extra reading, playtime with the kids, a walk in the
neighborhood, or maybe to catch up on some work. Whatever
you might use it for, it seems an hour would be a welcome addition
to the day.
For me, an extra hour would mean an extra
hour of sleep. Nothing makes me work better than a good night's
sleep, something I rarely get anymore considering kids,
careers, cycling and more.
Yes, I would spend that extra hour completely
on sound, restful sleep. No catching up on work, no reading
a good book, heck, not even extra playtime with the kids-just
sleep.
Considering the average person needs
around 8 hours of sleep, I would classify as having "sleep
debt," though not by much.
In a recent article I read, you can determine
whether you have sleep debt (lack of enough sleep) by a simple
test of relaxing in the afternoon in a peaceful place. If you
feel you need to go to sleep you probably have sleep debt.
Another test is to measure how quickly you fall asleep - if
it takes less than 5 minutes, this article claimed you have
severe sleep debt.
I don't know about you, but an extra hour
would be best used for shut-eye. Maybe you would use yours
for extra work, maybe time to watch a favorite show, but me,
I would sleep on it.
